Dr. Nicola Vandemeulebroecke, MD, PhD, is a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon with over two decades of clinical and surgical practice in the anterior and posterior eye segments. She currently serves as a SeniorOphthalmic Surgeon at Marien Hospital Düsseldorf, a teaching hospital of the University, providing comprehensive care in cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, glaucoma, and oculoplastic procedures. Renowned for her precise surgical technique, she combines clinical excellence with a genuine commitment to patient-centered care.

Since 2017, Dr. Vandemeulebroecke has been an international faculty member with MTS – The Wetlab Company, training eye surgeons worldwide and leading hands-on courses in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. She is a frequent speaker at international congresses and is very experienced in conducting seminars and practical training for ophthalmic surgeons.

Her career began at Asklepios Klinik Barmbek in Hamburg, Germany, followed by positions of residency and attending Physician/Consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology, Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, Germany. She has gained broad and excellent academic medical and surgical experience and qualified as a board-certified ophthalmologist in 2005. After working at a private hospital, she has held the position of Senior Ophthalmic Surgeon at Marien Hospital Düsseldorf (VKKD), a teaching hospital of the University, since 2015.

Dr. Vandemeulebroecke also brings rich international experience, including observerships at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK, (vitrectomy, cataract, adnexal surgery), an internship in general surgery at Hôtel Dieu in Paris, France, a clinical elective at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, USA, and a year at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, USA. She is fluent in German, English, French, and Dutch, which supports her strong involvement in international education and collaboration.

In 2002 she earned her PhD from the University of Kiel, Germany, where she developed a novel pain-coping strategy for patients with migraine. Beyond her clinical activity, she is engaged in community service through the Lions Club Düsseldorf Kaiserswerth.
