UEMS General Eligibility & Remit Statement
Under the guidelines of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), the primary target audience for this Live Educational Event (LEE) consists of fully qualified medical specialist doctors, specialist trainees, and fellows within the UEMS-recognized medical specialty of Ophthalmology.
In accordance with EACCME regulations:
Primary Target Audience: Fully qualified Ophthalmologists, Clinical Fellows, and Ophthalmology Residents/Trainees.
Secondary / Allied Audience: EACCME-accredited sessions are also open to other interested healthcare professionals (such as ophthalmic theatre nurses, surgical technologists, and clinical scientists). EACCME certificates of attendance with credit points may be issued to these attendees for voluntary recognition by their respective professional bodies.
Faculty / Speakers: Speakers attending the event outside their presentation delivery are eligible for participant credits, as well as credits under the UEMS “Learning by Teaching” policy.

1. Cataract Surgery Course – Basic
UEMS Medical Specialty: Ophthalmology
Learner Seniority: Junior to Mid-Level
Principal Intended Recipients: Ophthalmology Residents (Years 1–3), early-career fully qualified Specialist Doctors with minimal or no prior intraocular surgical experience, and medical specialists transitioning into anterior segment surgical practice who require foundational hands-on training in core phacoemulsification steps.
2. Cataract Surgery Course – Advanced
UEMS Medical Specialty: Ophthalmology (Subspecialty Focus: Anterior Segment / Cataract & Refractive Surgery)
Learner Seniority: Senior / Advanced
Principal Intended Recipients: Senior Ophthalmology Residents (Final Years), Anterior Segment Clinical Fellows, and fully qualified Specialist Doctors (Consultant/Attending Ophthalmologists) who already routinely perform standard phacoemulsification and seek to master advanced surgical techniques, difficult cases, and complication management.
3. Vitrectomy Surgery Course
UEMS Medical Specialty: Ophthalmology (Subspecialty Focus: Vitreoretinal / Posterior Segment Surgery)
Learner Seniority: Mid-Level to Senior
Principal Intended Recipients: Senior Ophthalmology Residents, Vitreoretinal (VR) Clinical Fellows, and early-to-mid career fully qualified Specialist Doctors entering posterior segment surgery who require structured wetlab training in core pars plana vitrectomy techniques, fluidics, and peripheral retinal manipulation.
4. Keratoplasty Surgery – DMEK / DSAEK Course
UEMS Medical Specialty: Ophthalmology (Subspecialty Focus: Cornea & External Disease / Anterior Segment)
Learner Seniority: Senior / Specialist Subspecialty Level
Principal Intended Recipients: Cornea & Anterior Segment Clinical Fellows and fully qualified Medical Specialist Doctors (Attending/Consultant Ophthalmologists) seeking dedicated, high-level practical training in endothelial keratoplasty, specifically donor graft preparation, loading, and orientation in the anterior chamber.
5. Secondary IOL Implantation Techniques Course
UEMS Medical Specialty: Ophthalmology (Subspecialty Focus: Complex Anterior Segment Surgery)
Learner Seniority: Senior / Specialist Subspecialty Level
Principal Intended Recipients: Experienced fully qualified Medical Specialist Doctors (Ophthalmic Surgeons) and Senior Anterior Segment Fellows seeking to expand their skill set in managing deficient capsular support and complex aphakia through advanced fixation techniques (e.g., Yamane scleral fixation, flange techniques, and iris/scleral-claw lenses).
