This highly specialized course focuses on endothelial keratoplasty, with particular emphasis on Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK).
Participants receive comprehensive practical training in donor tissue preparation, recipient bed preparation, graft insertion, orientation, unfolding, positioning and fixation. The course utilizes human donor tissue, allowing participants to experience realistic surgical conditions while learning delicate tissue manipulation techniques that are critical for successful endothelial transplantation.
Under the guidance of experienced corneal surgeons, participants practice each stage of the procedure repeatedly while learning strategies to minimize endothelial cell loss, improve graft attachment and manage potential intraoperative and early postoperative complications.
- Introduction: indications, advantages, surgical overview
- Donor tissue preparation (Descemet’s membrane stripping)
- Staining and orientation marking (e.g., Trypan Blue)
- Loading the graft into injector/delivery device
- Host eye preparation (incisions, descemetorhexis)
- Graft insertion into the anterior chamber
- Unfolding and orienting the graft (endothelium down)
- Positioning, centering, and fluid/bubble management
- Air or gas tamponade (e.g., SF6) for graft attachment
- Wound closure and stability check
- Management of complications (tears, folds, misorientation, poor adhesion)
- Faculty feedback, discussion, and troubleshooting

Your registration fee for iSCOPE: Prague Ophthalmic Wetlab includes everything you need for a complete educational and social experience, except accommodation:

CME / Credit Accreditation
The iSCOPE Prague Ophthalmic Wetlab 2026 is currently in the process of applying for European CME accreditation through EACCME® (UEMS).
The accreditation application is currently pending approval. The final number of European CME credits (ECMEC®s) will be announced once the accreditation process has been completed.
CME credits will apply only to the eligible educational components of the event, including lectures, demonstrations and wetlab sessions. Accommodation, travel and social activities are not included in the accredited educational programme.
Following approval, participants will be informed about the requirements for attendance, evaluation and the issuance of CME certificates.
Please note: Travel and accommodation expenses are not covered as part of the CME accreditation.
