Prof. Dr. med. Arne Viestenz is an internationally recognized ophthalmologist and ocular trauma specialist, currently serving as Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and University Hospital Halle (UKH), Germany. He is also President of the International Society of Ocular Trauma (ISOT) and President of the Global Ophthalmic Trauma Council.

Professor Viestenz studied medicine at the University of Leipzig and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, USA. During his distinguished medical career, he held leading academic and clinical positions at several renowned German university hospitals, including Erlangen, Magdeburg, and Homburg/Saar. Since 2017, he has led the Department of Ophthalmology in Halle and the Cornea Eye Bank MCH Halle.

His clinical and scientific expertise focuses on ocular traumatology, retinal diseases, vitreoretinal surgery, corneal transplantation, laser surgery, diabetic retinopathy, innovative drug delivery systems, and stem cell transplantation. Professor Viestenz is internationally known for pioneering advances in retinal imaging and surgery, ocular trauma reconstruction, laser technologies, and translational ophthalmic research.

In addition to his scientific work, he is deeply involved in international education and humanitarian projects. He has organized numerous international congresses, wetlabs, and surgical training courses focused on ophthalmic trauma, retina, and corneal surgery. He also supports global initiatives aimed at blindness prevention and ophthalmic care development in underserved regions.

Professor Viestenz has authored more than 230 peer-reviewed scientific publications, contributed to several ophthalmology textbooks, and delivered over 1,200 scientific lectures worldwide. His work has been recognized through multiple prestigious awards for scientific and surgical innovation in ophthalmology.
