Dr. Diana Silveira e Silva is a Portuguese ophthalmologist and consultant anterior segment surgeon with a strong clinical, academic, and educational background. She is currently a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando da Fonseca and Hospital da Luz (Lisbon), with a primary focus on cataract, refractive, and corneal surgery, including complex anterior segment cases.
Her clinical expertise includes high-volume cataract surgery with toric and premium intraocular lenses, management of complex cataracts (small pupils, pseudoexfoliation, post-keratoplasty, traumatic and uveitic cases), secondary IOL implantation, IOL exchange and repositioning, management of zonular weakness, aphakia, and anterior vitrectomy. She is also experienced in refractive surgery, phakic IOL implantation and explantation, as well as a wide range of corneal procedures, including corneal transplantation, corneal cross-linking, intracorneal ring segments, ocular surface surgery, and trauma repair.
She is actively involved in hands-on surgical education and regularly serves as a wetlab instructor, with a particular focus on basic and advanced phacoemulsification techniques and the management of complex cataract scenarios.
Dr. Silveira e Silva is actively involved in medical education and training. She serves as the Ophthalmology Residency Program Coordinator at Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando da Fonseca, overseeing resident rotations, surgical training requirements, and academic curricula. She is also an Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of Universidade Católica Portuguesa and a Guest Lecturer at the University of Lisbon, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmology education. Previously, she was Course Director of the Ophthalmology Module at the Dioscope Learning Center, where she coordinated a comprehensive national online training program for residents.
She is a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmologists (FEBO) and a Fellow of the European Board of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (FEBOS-CR). Dr. Silveira e Silva is an active member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), where she serves as Co-Chair of the EyeSustain Global Council and is involved in sustainability initiatives, wetlab instruction, and international educational programs. She is a frequent speaker, course instructor, and session chair at national and international ophthalmology congresses, with particular interest in cataract surgery, anterior segment complications, surgical education, and sustainable ophthalmic practice.
